Med School at 40

I'm Dimuthu from Sri Lanka and I am 38 this year. I work as an assistant in a pharmacy and I plan on taking the GCE AL exams in 2026.

In order to become a licensed pharmacist I need to first pass my GCE Advanced Level exams which is comparable to the same in UK and comparable to SAT or sometimes MCAT in USA.

In Sri Lanka you can only take this exam three times (this is my third time) if you plan to go to university. So the competition is high and the exams are hard.

I recently came across a YouTube video on a man called Dr Carl Allamby. He became a Doctor at the age of 51 after being a mechanic all his life. After watching the video it gave me goosebumps.

My dreams of becoming a doctor that I have forgotten about came back and I began to dream of the impossible. Now I plan on trying my absolute best to see how far I can go! I'm not sure if I'm smart enough but I will try my hardest so I will have no regret. If I succeed I will be the oldest medical student in the entire history of my country.

I have already cut down the working hours and work part time now. But in our education system you need to be in the top 200 scorers in my district to get a place at any university. The university education is government run and free, but the downside is there are only a limited number of students can enter the university system.

Because the competition is high I need to spend more time in education, which in turn makes it hard for me to cover my living expenses, tuition fees, study texts, etc.

That is why I decided to make a token. I believe in Feynman technique for studying. So I will be live streaming, as if I'm teaching someone about the chapters I have learned in Physics, Biology and Chemistry. This will be mainly in my own language, but if anyone wants to I can try to do it in English as well. I will also be live streaming my study sessions. I think it will help because I study on my own.

I don't need to rug this. I'm planning on live streaming until I take my exams next year, and I will be happy with couple of hundred dollars in fees to pay for my classes and expenses.

Thank you everyone!
